Overview
9 Days Cairo & Nile Cruise — Islamic Cairo, Pyramids, GEM & 4-Night Cruise 2026
Ahmed’s honest take: The 9-day programme is, in my view, the right length for a first Egypt trip. Here is why. The 7-day budget tour is excellent value but compresses everything — one day Cairo before the train, three nights on the Nile. The 8-day with Old Cairo adds breathing space. The 9-day gives you something those packages cannot: four full days in Cairo and four nights on the Nile — the right balance for first-time visitors who do not want to feel rushed at either the Pyramids or the temples. The extra Cairo day on this programme is Day 3: the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, the Citadel of Saladin, the Mohamed Ali Mosque and the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. I want to be precise about Day 3 because I am asked about it often. The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir is the original museum — the 1902 building that held the entire Egyptian collection for 120 years before the GEM opened in 2023. It still contains artefacts not yet transferred to the GEM, and it has a quality of atmosphere — slightly disordered, intensely present, full of things the labels have not caught up with — that the GEM, for all its magnificence, cannot replicate. You will have visited the GEM on Day 2; the Tahrir Museum on Day 3 is a completely different experience. The cruise is four nights: Karnak and Luxor Temple on Day 4, the Valley of the Kings on Day 5, Edfu and Kom Ombo on Day 6, Philae and the High Dam on Day 7. You fly back to Cairo on Day 8 and depart on Day 9. Both domestic flights are included. This is the most complete standard Egypt itinerary in our portfolio, and at $1,599 per person, it is better value than most competitors offering the same number of nights at higher prices.
What This Package Covers
How This Compares to Our Other Cairo & Nile Cruise Packages
Who Should Book the 9-Day Programme
- First-time visitors to Egypt who want to see everything without feeling rushed — four days in Cairo and four nights on the Nile is the right ratio
- History enthusiasts who want both the Grand Egyptian Museum (opened 2023, complete Tutankhamun collection) and the original Egyptian Museum in Tahrir (1902 collection, unique atmosphere) — the only package in our range that includes both
- Travellers who want Islamic Cairo in depth — the Citadel, the Mohamed Ali Mosque and the Khan el-Khalili are a full day, not an evening bolt-on
- Couples and families who find 7-day itineraries too compressed and want a more relaxed pace
- Guests who want both domestic flights included — Cairo to Luxor outbound, Aswan to Cairo return, no trains, no ground transport for the Nile Valley leg
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the best 9-day Egypt itinerary?
For first-time visitors wanting a comprehensive, unhurried Egypt experience, yes. Four days in Cairo gives you time to absorb the Pyramids without rushing to the airport the next morning. Four nights on the Nile means you cover every major temple between Luxor and Aswan without skipping anything. The Islamic Cairo day (Day 3) is the decisive addition over shorter programmes — the Citadel, the Mohamed Ali Mosque and the Khan el-Khalili are a different Cairo from the pharaonic monuments, and they take a full day to do properly. The 9-day is the most balanced Egypt itinerary at the most justified price in our portfolio.
Why does Day 3 visit the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and not the GEM?
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is visited on Day 2 along with the Pyramids — that is where Tutankhamun’s complete golden collection now lives. The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square on Day 3 is the original museum, opened in 1902, which held Egypt’s entire archaeological collection for 120 years. It still contains thousands of artefacts not yet transferred to the GEM — including the original Mummies Room — and has a unique, atmospheric quality that the GEM, for all its scale and modernity, does not replicate. Most guests leave Day 3’s Tahrir Museum visit saying it was unexpectedly moving precisely because of its lived-in character. They are genuinely different experiences.
What is the price of this 9-day Egypt tour?
Standard accommodation from $1,599 per person (triple, low season May–Sep) to $2,559 (single, high season Oct–Apr). Deluxe accommodation from $1,899 per person (triple, low season) to $2,699 (single, high season). Both domestic flights included. Contact us for exact pricing on your dates and group size.
Can I add Abu Simbel to this package?
Yes — Abu Simbel can be added as an early morning EgyptAir flight from Aswan on Day 7 (depart approximately 06:00, return by 11:00) before the main Aswan sightseeing. Approximately $180–$220 per person additional. Strongly recommended — Abu Simbel is one of the most extraordinary monuments on earth and Aswan is the only practical base for visiting it. Mention at the time of enquiry.
What is the difference between Standard and Deluxe accommodation?
Standard: comfortable 4-star Cairo hotel and 4-star Nile cruise cabin. Deluxe: 5-star Cairo hotel and superior cruise cabin with upgraded dining and service. The itinerary, guide, sightseeing and all entrance fees are identical across both tiers — only the hotel and cruise ship change. Ask us which specific ships are sailing on your dates.
