Alexandria Attractions — The Pearl of the Mediterranean
Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC and became the intellectual capital of the ancient world — home to the Great Library, the Lighthouse (one of the Seven Wonders) and a multicultural society of Greeks, Jews, Egyptians and Romans. Today the Mediterranean city retains traces of all those civilisations in its catacombs, its Roman ruins, its Greco-Roman museum and its elegant seaside corniche.
