Overview
8 Days Cairo & Nile Cruise with Old Cairo — The Complete Egypt Experience 2026
Ahmed’s honest take: When guests ask me the difference between the 7-day and 8-day programme, the answer is one day of Cairo — but that one day is not a minor addition. It is the difference between seeing ancient Egypt and seeing Cairo as a complete, living city. The 7-day gives you the Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum: the pharaonic world in full. The 8-day adds Old Cairo — the Citadel of Saladin, the Mohamed Ali Mosque, the medieval Khan el-Khalili Bazaar — the Islamic layer built on top of everything that came before. These two Cairos exist simultaneously and feed each other’s meaning. The cruise on this programme is three nights (Aswan to Luxor), with Luxor East and West Bank covered on Day 6 after disembarkation. I want to be honest: if you can spare one more day, the 9-day programme gives you the same Islamic Cairo day with a 4-night cruise. But if eight days is your window, this is a genuinely exceptional trip.

Why Old Cairo Makes This Trip Different
Cairo is at least three cities layered on top of each other, separated by a thousand years each. The 7-day programme shows you the oldest layer: 4,500-year-old Egypt at the Giza Plateau and the GEM. This 8-day programme adds the medieval Islamic layer — the civilisation built between the 7th and 19th centuries that gave Cairo its skyline and its soul.
The Citadel of Saladin (1176 AD) dominates the eastern skyline as the pyramids dominate the western one. Inside it, the Mohamed Ali Mosque (1848, Ottoman) has alabaster walls and an interior so striking it stops conversation. The Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, operating since the 14th century through the Fatimid streets of Al-Muizz li-Din Allah, is where modern Cairo lives alongside ancient trade. If you do one thing in Cairo that is not a monument, it is this.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the price of this 8-day package?
From $999 per person (Budget, double occupancy), $1,399 (Classic) and $1,999 (Luxury 5-star). All tiers include both domestic flights, private Egyptologist guide throughout, all cruise meals and all entrance fees listed in the itinerary. Contact us for exact pricing for your dates.
How does this differ from the 7-day programme?
The 7-day programme has 2 nights Cairo (Pyramids + GEM) and a 4-night Nile Cruise. This 8-day has 3 nights Cairo (adding the full Islamic Cairo day) and a 3-night Nile Cruise. More Cairo depth, slightly shorter cruise. For both Old Cairo and a 4-night cruise, see our 9-day programme.
What does the Old Cairo day include?
Day 3: Citadel of Saladin (12th-century fortress) + Mohamed Ali Mosque inside the Citadel + Khan el-Khalili Bazaar (medieval market, 14th century to present) + Al-Muizz Street. All with your private Egyptologist guide. Entrance fees included. Optional addition: Coptic Cairo (Hanging Church, Ben Ezra Synagogue) in the afternoon.
Can I add Abu Simbel?
Yes — Abu Simbel can be added as an early morning flight from Aswan on Day 4 before boarding the cruise. Strongly recommended. Approximately $180–$220 per person extra. Mention when enquiring.
Is 3 nights on the Nile enough?
Three nights covers all the key Nile sites: Aswan (High Dam, Unfinished Obelisk, Philae Temple), Kom Ombo Temple, Edfu Temple, and both Luxor banks on Day 6. It is a full programme, slightly more compressed than a 4-night cruise. If you prefer more time on the Nile, the 9-day programme gives you a 4-night cruise with the same Cairo content.
