Overview
8 Days Cairo & Nile Cruise — Luxor Start | Pyramids, GEM & 4-Night Cruise Luxor to Aswan 2026
Ahmed’s honest take: Most Nile Cruise packages fly you to Aswan and sail north to Luxor. This programme does the opposite: you fly to Luxor and sail south to Aswan. It is a genuinely different experience of the same river. Sailing south means the current works against you — the ship moves slower, you see the banks differently, and the sequence of temples feels more like a journey of discovery than a return home. You visit Luxor East Bank (Karnak and Luxor Temple) on Day 3 immediately after arriving by air, then spend the cruise moving through the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut on Day 4, Edfu and Kom Ombo on Days 5 and 6, and arrive in Aswan on Day 7. You fly back to Cairo from Aswan. The practical advantage is that this programme has four nights on the Nile (not three), which gives everything more room to breathe. The right choice if you want the Nile cruise to be the centrepiece of the trip rather than the Cairo section.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why fly to Luxor instead of Aswan?
Flying to Luxor and sailing south to Aswan gives you four nights on the Nile instead of the three nights that most Aswan-start programmes offer. It also means you see the Luxor temples (Karnak, Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings) first — building context before the cruise — and arrive in Aswan at the end of the voyage rather than the beginning. Neither direction is objectively better; this one simply gives more time on the river.
What is included in the price?
All accommodation (2 nights Cairo + 4 nights cruise), both domestic flights (Cairo→Luxor + Aswan→Cairo), private licensed Egyptologist guide for all sightseeing, private air-conditioned vehicle for all transfers, lunch on Day 2, all meals on the cruise (Days 3–7), and all entrance fees to every site listed in the itinerary. See the full inclusions table below.
Can I add Abu Simbel?
Yes — Abu Simbel can be added as an early morning supplement from Aswan on Day 7 before the main sightseeing. Approximately $180–$220 per person. Strongly recommended. Mention at the time of enquiry and we arrange the EgyptAir flight (06:00 departure, back by 11:00).
What are the cruise tiers?
Budget ($1,199pp): 4-star motor cruiser, comfortable cabin, all meals, shared pool deck. Classic ($1,619pp): larger cabin, upgraded dining and service, renovated ships. Luxury ($2,199pp): 5-star Steigenberger Legacy or Minerva, bathtub all cabins, gourmet dining. The itinerary and all sightseeing are identical across all tiers — only the ship changes. Ask us which ship is sailing on your dates.
