Overview
MS Esmeralda Nile Cruise — Honest Review, Facilities & Prices 2026
Ahmed's honest take: Esmeralda is the ship I'd point to first if you want a fresh, current interior in our Classic range — it went through a full renovation in 2025, which is more recent than any other Classic ship we sell. What sets it apart isn't just the paint and furniture: the two Presidential Suites are the only cabins with a private Jacuzzi anywhere in this category, and the Ruby Bar genuinely runs a proper nightly entertainment programme rather than one show a week. One thing I want to be upfront about: the official ship documentation doesn't mention private balconies on any cabin category, so if a balcony is a must-have for you, this isn't the ship — I'll point you to one that has them.

Is It Worth It?
At $949pp double, Esmeralda sits at the top of our Classic pricing alongside Le Fayan and above the Steigenberger trio ($749) and Alexander The Great ($849). What you're paying for is largely the renovation and the entertainment programme: a 2025 refit means newer furnishings, fixtures, and finishes than any comparable ship we sell, and the Ruby Bar's nightly Tanoura, belly dancing and live music sets Esmeralda apart from ships where entertainment is a once-a-cruise event. The two Presidential Suites with private Jacuzzi are a genuine luxury touch rarely found at this price point. If a private balcony matters more to you than a fresh interior and a lively bar, this isn't the right ship — but for guests prioritising recency and atmosphere, it's a strong case.

FAQ
How many cabins does MS Esmeralda have?
62 total: 44 Twin Cabins, 16 King Cabins, and 2 Presidential Suites, each with a private Jacuzzi. This makes Esmeralda one of the larger ships in our Classic fleet, with more configuration options than the smaller boutique ships.
When was MS Esmeralda renovated?
The ship was fully renovated in 2025, making it the most recently refurbished vessel in our Classic range. Expect current furnishings, fixtures, and finishes rather than an older interior carried over from a previous decade.
Does Esmeralda have private balconies?
This isn't confirmed on the official ship documentation for any cabin category, including the Presidential Suites. If a private balcony is essential, we'd suggest Steigenberger Legacy or Minerva instead, which do offer them in suite categories.
How is Esmeralda different from Alexander The Great?
Esmeralda is roughly double the cabin count (62 vs 30) and leans into a lively bar/entertainment programme with a 2025 renovation. Alexander The Great is a smaller, quieter, culinary-focused boutique yacht. Choose Esmeralda for scale, freshness and nightlife; choose Alexander The Great for intimacy and a food-first evening.
What's included in the Presidential Suite?
A king-size bed, decorative glass walls, panoramic Nile views, and a private Jacuzzi — the only cabin category in our entire Classic fleet with an in-suite Jacuzzi. Only 2 are available on board, so they book out early for honeymoon and anniversary trips.
