Overview
Royal Princess (Al Amira) Nile Cruise 2026 — Honest Review, Itinerary & Prices
Ahmed's honest take: The Royal Princess — also marketed as Al Amira — is the sister ship to our Royal Beaurivage, operated by the same Royal French Nile Cruises / Gratsia Tours group. Both ships share the same smart cabin technology — Alexa-powered voice control for AC, TV, lights, room service and entertainment — but they have genuinely different personalities. Where the Royal Beaurivage is ultra-modern with a striking stained-glass mosaic lobby, the Royal Princess takes a Contemporary Classic approach: polished marble floors, bronze finishes, neutral tones, a boutique-hotel ambiance. The real standout on the Royal Princess is its dedicated spa and wellness deck — a separate massage room for aromatherapy treatments, a proper dry-heat sauna room, and a gym with cardio and weight-training equipment, all on their own floor rather than squeezed into a corner of the ship. This is a more developed wellness offering than most ships in our budget fleet. Renovated as recently as September 2024, the Royal Princess is one of the newest renovations in our budget category.
Quick Facts — Royal Princess (Al Amira)
Is the Royal Princess (Al Amira) Worth It?
Yes — particularly for the wellness deck and the September 2024 renovation. At $569pp double the Royal Princess sits in the mid-range of our Monday/Friday budget fleet. Its dedicated spa and wellness floor (separate massage room, sauna room, and gym) is more developed than most budget-category ships offer, and the smart cabin technology brings genuine modern convenience. Being renovated as recently as September 2024 also means the ship benefits from current finishes and updated systems throughout. Compared to its sister ship the Royal Beaurivage, the Royal Princess trades the dramatic stained-glass lobby for a more understated, contemporary-classic aesthetic with marble floors and bronze accents — a question of taste rather than quality.
Who Should Book — and Who Should Consider Another Ship
Book the Royal Princess if:
- You want a dedicated spa and wellness deck with a proper massage room, sauna and gym — more developed than most budget ships
- You like the idea of smart Alexa-controlled cabins but need Monday/Friday departures (the Royal Beaurivage with the same technology is Saturday/Wednesday only)
- You prefer a contemporary classic interior — marble, bronze, neutral tones — over an ultra-modern or themed design
- You value a recently renovated ship — September 2024 is one of the most recent renovations in our budget fleet
- You are travelling as a couple or on honeymoon and want a boutique-hotel ambiance on board
Consider a different ship if:
You need Saturday/Wednesday departures with smart cabins → Royal Beaurivage from $569pp (same technology, ultra-modern lobby instead) · You want a confirmed bathtub → MS Alyssa from $559pp (Mon/Fri, bathtubs confirmed in all cabins) · You want the lowest price on Mon/Fri → Chateau Lafayette from $559pp · You want 4 meals daily and 2 Jacuzzis → MS Tower Prestige from $649pp (Mon/Fri) · You want complete privacy → Dahabiya sailing from $900pp. Ask us and we will recommend honestly.

Frequently Asked Questions — Royal Princess (Al Amira)
What is the difference between the Royal Princess and the Royal Beaurivage?
Both ships are operated by Royal French Nile Cruises under Gratsia Tours and share the same Alexa-powered smart cabin technology. The key differences: the Royal Beaurivage is ultra-modern in style with a striking stained-glass mosaic lobby ceiling and departs Saturday/Wednesday. The Royal Princess is contemporary classic in style — marble floors, bronze finishes — with a more developed dedicated spa deck (separate massage, sauna and gym rooms), and departs Monday/Friday. Choose based on your preferred departure day and aesthetic taste — both offer the same smart cabin convenience.
Is the Royal Princess the same ship as "Al Amira" or "Princess Amira"?
The ship's official name from the operator (Royal French Nile Cruises / Gratsia Tours) is "The Princess," marketed as "Royal Princess" and also referred to as "Al Amira." Please note there are other unrelated Nile cruise ships with similar names ("Princess Amira," "Royal Princess Al Amira") from different operators — these are not the same vessel. When booking with Best Nile Cruises, you are booking the Royal Princess operated by Royal French Nile Cruises / Gratsia Tours, confirmed via their official fact sheet.
How do the smart cabins on the Royal Princess work?
The Royal Princess uses Alexa-powered voice technology, allowing guests to control air conditioning and temperature, cabin TV, entertainment, and cabin lights by voice, and order room service through a mobile app. This is part of the operator's "First Smart Cruises in the Nile" initiative, shared with the sister ship Royal Beaurivage. It is confirmed in the official 2025 fact sheet from Gratsia Tours.
What does the spa and wellness deck on the Royal Princess include?
The Royal Princess has a dedicated wellness deck with three separate facilities: a massage room offering aromatherapy and relaxation treatments, a sauna room with a dry-heat detox environment, and a gym equipped with modern cardio and weight-training machines. This dedicated wellness floor is more developed than the spa facilities found on most ships in our budget fleet, where massage and gym are often a single shared space.
Does the Royal Princess have bathtubs or showers?
The official fact sheet confirms each cabin has a private bathroom but does not specify shower or bathtub. We recommend contacting us to confirm the exact bathroom configuration for your preferred cabin category before booking, particularly if a bathtub is important to you. If a bathtub is a firm requirement, the MS Alyssa (same Monday/Friday schedule, from $559pp) has confirmed bathtubs in all 66 cabins.
