Iris Dahabiya — Honest Review, Cabins, Itinerary & Rates 2026
Ahmed’s honest take: The Iris Dahabiya is the largest dahabiya we offer — 55 metres, up to 36 guests, 17 cabin categories — and it carries the most comprehensive facilities of any dahabiya in our fleet. The defining feature is the free-standing Jacuzzi bathtub in every single cabin, from the 17m² Single Deluxe to the 40m² Royal Suites. This is not an upgrade option or a suite-only feature; every guest on the Iris has a standalone Jacuzzi bathtub in their private bathroom. Combined with a heated swimming pool and a separate Jacuzzi on the open sun deck, the Iris offers more water features than any other dahabiya on the Nile. Three things I want to be direct about. First: guided excursions, the Egyptologist guide and airport transfers are listed as “upon request” on the official site — they are not automatically included in the rate. This is different from most dahabiyas where excursions are built in. When you book through us, we clarify exactly what is and is not included for your specific booking and build the right package. Second: the Iris operates primarily under sail — twin lateen sails — with a small motorised support boat for controlled navigation in low-wind conditions or when manoeuvring. This is the most authentic dahabiya sailing experience available. Third: at 36 guests, the Iris is larger than any other dahabiya we offer. It is still intimate compared to a standard Nile cruise ship (80–150 passengers), but it is less exclusive than the 12–24 guest vessels. If maximum intimacy matters, consider the Swan (24 guests) or Akhnaton (12 cabins). If you want the richest facilities, the most cabin options and a Jacuzzi bathtub in your room, the Iris has no equal.

Three Water Features — A Dahabiya First
The Iris is the only dahabiya in our fleet — and, to our knowledge, on the Nile — that combines three distinct water experiences: a free-standing Jacuzzi bathtub in every private cabin, a separate Jacuzzi on the sun deck available to all guests, and a heated swimming pool on the open-air sun deck. The in-cabin Jacuzzi is in the private bathroom; the deck Jacuzzi and heated pool are shared facilities on the sun deck. The result: guests can soak alone in their room, swim on deck in the heated pool, and use the outdoor Jacuzzi at sunset with the Nile moving past.
Who Should Book the Iris Dahabiya
- Guests who want a Jacuzzi bathtub in their room as standard — no upgrade required, every cabin category has one
- Families and groups who want connected suites — Royal Suites (40m²) and Junior Suites (29m²) on both decks can be joined as one larger unit
- Honeymooners and couples choosing a Royal Suite with private veranda and in-room Jacuzzi bathtub — the most luxurious dahabiya cabin available through BNC
- Wellness-focused travellers who want yoga, a gym, kayaking and a heated pool on their sailing holiday
- Solo travellers — a dedicated 17m² single cabin avoids the single supplement that applies on larger ships
- Guests who want an authentic sailing experience — the twin lateen sails make the Iris the most traditionally powered vessel in the fleet
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every cabin really have a Jacuzzi bathtub?
Yes. Every cabin and suite on the Iris Dahabiya has a free-standing Jacuzzi bathtub in the private en-suite bathroom — confirmed on the official site and in the fact sheet. This applies to all 17 cabins from the 17m² Single Deluxe to the 40m² Royal Suite. It is not an upgrade option. The deck Jacuzzi and heated pool are in addition to the in-cabin Jacuzzi bathtub.
Are temple excursions included in the rate?
No — guided excursions (Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philae Temple and others), the Egyptologist guide and airport or train station transfers are listed as “upon request” on the official Iris Dahabiya site. They are not automatically included in the cabin rate. When you book through Best Nile Cruises, we build the excursion package you want and confirm exactly what is included. Ask us to specify your package.
What is the difference between the Royal Suite and Junior Suite?
Royal Suites are 40m² on the upper deck with a private veranda — the largest cabins on the boat. Junior Suites are 29m² and available on both the upper deck (with veranda) and the main deck (with full panoramic sliding window, no private outdoor space). Both suite categories have free-standing Jacuzzi bathtubs and can be connected to the adjacent suite to form a larger unit — ideal for families or two couples travelling together.
How does the Iris compare to other dahabiyas?
The Iris is the largest dahabiya in our fleet (55m, 36 guests) with the richest facilities. For a smaller, more exclusive experience (24 guests max), see the Swan Dahabiya or Nawara Dahabiya. For a unique off-the-beaten-track itinerary (El Kab, Gebel el Silsila, Daraw camel market) with 12 cabins, see the Akhnaton Dahabiya. Full comparison →
